Industrial PhD project: Robust optimization for adaptive radiation therapy

  • Skola & utbildning

Ray Search develops innovative software solutions to improve cancer care. Over 2,600 clinics in more than 65 countries use Ray Search software to improve treatments and quality of life for patients. Ray Search was founded in 2000 and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. Headquarter is in central Stockholm and the company has subsidiaries in the US, Europe and Asia. Today we are more than 380 employees with a common vision in improving cancer care with innovative software. Our great staff is crucial for our success and we offer a fantastic working environment in modern offices, flexibility and good opportunities for development. We believe in equal opportunities, value diversity and work actively to prevent discrimination. We offer an industrial Ph D student position in Applied and Computational Mathematics in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology. About the project Cancer treatment has the potential to be significantly improved by an online daily adaptive workflow: a new radiation therapy treatment plan is created each day as the patient is lying on the treatment couch. However, this introduces new uncertainties, e.g., related to algorithms dealing with the automatic contouring of the daily patient images. To bring the daily adaptive workflow to a clinical reality, these uncertainties must be identified and addressed. The aim of this project is to develop mathematical methods to mitigate the new uncertainties. The project will be supervised from KTH, with a co-supervisor from Ray Search. The Ph D student will spend part of the time at KTH and part of the time at the research department in Ray Search’s main office in central Stockholm. Your main tasks This Ph D project will consist of investigating the most appropriate robust planning techniques for the problem at hand, or to develop new optimization algorithms if needed. You will contribute to the advancement of basic science in a setting where fundamental optimization meets radiation therapy. Typical work tasks include: • Research • Coursework • Publishing research in scientific journals and at scientific meetings • Prototype software development Your profile You have good analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset. When working on a problem, you formulate the right questions, identify what is important and work in a goal-oriented way towards a solution. You are a strong team player who takes responsibility and contributes to a positive atmosphere. You take pride in delivering high-quality results with efficiency. Requirements • MSc in (engineering) mathematics, physics, computer science or similar • Swedish, English It is an advantage, but not required, if you also have proven skills in C++, C#, Matlab, or Python. Application Please apply to the position through the application form below. Selection and interviews will be ongoing. We do not accept applications by e-mail, but if you have any questions about the position please contact Albin Fredriksson, Head of Optimization.
